Bycast to Deliver Next Generation Image Management and Storage System For the BC Cancer Agency, Funding Provided By Canarie

Vancouver, Canada September 30, 2002 - Bycast Inc. www.bycast.com and the BC Cancer Agency are pleased to announce that the Canarie Telehealth/E-Health Program has committed funding for further development of Bycast's distributed image management system StorageGRID MultiSite ™ for integration at the BC Cancer Agency.

Bycast's StorageGRID MultiSite ™ facilitates fast access, cost effective storage, secure delivery and bandwidth efficient transmission of diagnostic imaging exams across the enterprise and between geographically distributed healthcare facilities. Bycast will deploy a customized version of StorageGRID MultiSite ™ that interfaces with the BC Cancer Agency's electronic health record system to create an integrated solution that allows access to diagnostic imaging exams from BC Cancer Agency centres. The main objective of the project is to leverage existing networks to improve the quality of patient care and reduce the costs associated with delivering that care. The system will enable the secure and efficient management and storage of all images associated with providing cancer care in the province of British Columbia.

Don Henkelman, Chief Information Officer of the Provincial Health Services Authority said, "StorageGRID MultiSite ™ in combination with the Cancer Agency Information System (CAIS) will enable care providers throughout the BC Cancer Agency centres quick access to a complete electronic health record that includes all relevant images and documents. StorageGRID MultiSite's ™ solution for the secure and timely delivery of diagnostic images will enable the BC Cancer Agency to provide improved and more cost effective cancer care."

In addition to reduced costs and increased speed of access, the system will allow multiple health care providers to simultaneously view the same diagnostic image. "For example, oncologists in Kelowna and Vancouver will be able to view the same diagnostic image, at the same time, in different locations. This will enable a marked improvement as they consult with one another", Henkelman explained.

Mohammad Kermani, CEO of Bycast said, "This project will clearly demonstrate that StorageGRID MultiSite ™ sets a new standard for the storage and distribution of diagnostic images with a truely scalable and reliable solution that integrates with a variety of imaging modalities and information systems for a geographically distributed health care enterprise."

Its mission is to accelerate the development and use of Canada's advanced internet by facilitating the widespread adoption of faster, more efficient networks and by stimulating the development of new next generation products, applications and services.

About Bycast Inc. www.bycast.com

Bycast develops software that enables the fault tolerant storage and bandwidth efficient distribution of diagnostic imaging exams for the healthcare enterprise, including geographically distributed organizations with limited bandwidth connectivity.

Bycast's products are based on Bycast StorageGRID Architecture™, specifically designed to overcome the scalability, reliability, manageability and security (consistent with Canadian and US government privacy guidelines, including HIPAA) challenges encountered in the storage and distribution of large volumes of bandwidth intensive imaging data over IP networks, including the Internet.

Bycast's products enable the creation of enterprise wide computing grids that interface with existing clinical information systems and make the capture, archive, retrieval and transmission of diagnostic imaging exams easier, faster, more reliable and more cost effective than traditional solutions that rely on monolithic servers and expensive storage subsystems.
